Joseph Edward Duncan is an American convicted serial killer and sex offender who received national attention after being arrested in connection with the kidnapping of Shasta Groene, aged 8, and her brother Dylan, 9. He pled guilty in December 2007 to 10 federal counts involving the kidnapping and torture of the children and the murder of Dylan, and was sentenced to death under federal laws for kid
napping resulting in death.
On July 6, 1996, he killed Sammiejo White, aged 11, and her sister, Carmen Cubias, aged 9.
On July 2, 2005: Joseph Edward Duncan III is arrested at a Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, diner after he is seen with kidnap victim Shasta Groene, 8. Duncan had targeted the children, watching their home and killing their 13-year-old brother, Slade Groene, their mother, Brenda Groene, and her fiance, Mark McKenzie, in order to take the young siblings. Eventually killing Dylan but Shasta was rescued after seven weeks.

Joseph Duncan planned to commit such crimes over and over until he died, the convicted killer told a federal jury.
On August 27, 2008. In total, he received three death sentences and nine life sentences for the Idaho crimes.
